Fall is a jam-packed season of activities including pumpkin carving, Halloween, corn mazes, hay-rides and of course APPLE-PICKING. One of the best places for this fun fall activity is upstate New York. Not only are there plenty of orchards to choose from, the changing fall foliage creates a beautiful display of orange, red and yellow.
My friends and I went to Wilklow Orchards in Highland, NY. Wilklow Orchards has been family owned and operated for six generations and all the staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. In addition to pick your own apples, the orchard offers homemade apple cider donuts, fresh pressed apple cider, vegetables, pick-your-own-pumpkins, cooking sauces, hay-rides, awesome fall decorations, a petting zoo and more- perfect for kids and families.
One of the best perks about apple-picking at Wilklow farms was that we could eat and sample as many apples as we wanted while picking! This helped us select the most delicious apples for cooking and eating. The orchard offers 13 varieties of apples including Cortland, Empire, Gala, Golden Delicious, Jonagold, Jonamac, McIntosh, Mutsu, Northern Spy, Red Delicious, Rome, Winesap and more.
Wilklow Orchards is open Labor Day weekend through October 31st, 9-6 daily.
I made this handy apple-picking guide (Right) to help you choose the perfect apples for all of your cooking, baking and snacking needs!
Have you been apple-picking before? If so where and what’s your favorite variety of apple?
